Meeting Minutes
Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland
Call to Order - President Julie Hubbard called the meeting
to order at 12:15 p.m.
Roll Call - the following members were present: Grant
Nyhammer (01), Lucia West Jones (02), Barbara Eskildsen
(03), Joanne Thomas (04), Mike O'Donnell (05), Julie Hubbard
(07), Tracy Barczewski (09), Yvonne DeKnikker (10) by phone,
John Smith (11), Yolanda Curry (12) by phone, and Diane
Slezak (13). Absent: Area 06 and Area 08.
Guests included Terry Steczo, Maureen Mulhull, and Susan
Hughes.
Minutes of the March 27, 2012 Meeting - Lucia West Jones
moved approval. Motion seconded by Barbara Eskildsen. Motion
carried.
Treasurer's Report - Barbara Eskildsen moved approval.
Motion seconded by Lucia West Jones. Motion carried.
Legislative Committee Report - Government Strategy
Associates Terry Steczo and Maureen Mulhull gave a
legislative update including draft legislation to create the
Seniors Pharmaceutical Relief Program Act. Mike O'Donnell
provided a synopsis of SB 2840 calling for cuts and changes
in the Medicaid program, including the elimination of
Illinois Cares Rx.
Introduction (phone) - The Area Agencies on Aging were
introduced to Kenneth Munson, Regional Director, Department
of Health and Human Services. Conversation followed.
Fit and Strong! - Susan Hughes, DSW, Institute for Human
Health Research and Policy gave a presentation on Fit and
Strong - an evidence-based physical activity program for
older adults. Discussion followed.
CCPAC Report - Joanne Thomas presented a summary of the most
recent CCPAC Meeting. Discussion followed.
OASAC Report - Grant Nyhammer presented the OASAC Report.
Discussion followed.
Illinois Alzheimer's Collaboration - Dr. Raj C. Shah (by
phone) described the role of the Rush Alzheimer's Disease
Center and opportunities for collaborating with Area
Agencies on Aging. John Smith noted the similar role of the
SIU Memory and Aging Center which serves downstate Illinois.
Case Management Redesign - I4A discussed plans for an
informational meeting sponsored by the Illinois Department
on Aging, entitled, "The Changing Landscape of Long Term
Services for Older Adults - A National Perspective" to be
held June 19, 2012 in Chicago. The Association also
discussed the future roles for case management and AAAs in
relationship to managed care for older adults and persons
with disabilities who are dually eligible for Medicare and
Medicaid.
OAA Title III-D - I4A discussed the costs and benefits of
implementing evidence-based health aging programs in
Illinois.
ADRCs - I4A discussed the implementation of Aging and
Disability Resource Centers and the potential for continued
federal funding.
Nominating Committee - Joanne Thomas moved the election of
Lucia West Jones, Barb Eskildsen, and Tracy Barczewski to
serve on a Nominating Committee to nominate candidates for
the election of officers. Motion seconded by John Smith.
Motion carried.
Next Meeting: August 21, 2012 at the Area Agency on Aging
for LincolnLand in Springfield.
